Palliative care is specialized medical care provided by a team of doctors, nurses, and a care team dedicated to providing comfort to people with serious illnesses. Often referred to as comfort care, an important aspect of palliative care is the compassionate approach which offers emotional and spiritual support to the patient as well as to their loved ones.
Palliative care is intended to relieve symptoms commonly associated with chronic and terminal illnesses such as: cancer, kidney failure, Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Alzheimer’s, and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). By providing relief from the symptoms associated with these serious illnesses, palliative care helps us to offer a better quality of life to our patients.
At the heart of Del Corazon Hospice’s palliative care is the goal of improving the quality of life for our patients while supporting the belief that each of us has the right to die pain-free and with dignity and respect.
